Do you want to be a Football Video Scout?

Football clubs across the world have both football video scouts & live scouts as well as hybrid scouts who do a combination of both. We have course attendees based in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia & UAE scouting for clubs in 1st team video scouting roles.

For example, when I was working as a 1st team senior European Scouting Manager at Aston Villa we had a scout based in Finland. On a week-to-week basis his primary role was to watch games live across Scandinavia, which he did in combination with video scouting. We also had someone based in Sydney who worked as a full-time video scout in watching 1st team games across Europe using  Wyscout, however he also did some occasional live scouting in attending A-League games, U21 games etc.

FOOTBALL VIDEO SCOUTING JOBS

Football video scouts work from home either part time or full time.

Each Monday, video scouts are sent games to watch & asked to scout specific player’s from those games. Sometimes, they will just be sent a game & asked to report on anyone who stands out or who they feel should be watched again.

The video scout will then complete scouting reports & send them by e-mail or upload them onto the cubs scouting database.

Patrick for example is based in Colombia & began working as a 1st team video scout for Brentford following completion of our online football scouting course. He lives in an isolated location away from stadiums, so a video scouting role was perfect for him.

We have had others based in the UK, Australia, Scandinavia & USA as another example who began working for FC Twente following completion in 1st video scouting roles.

Since COVID there are more video scouts than ever before as clubs became heavily reliant in scouting player’s this way, however in employing video scouts, clubs quickly realised that this is a very time efficient way to scout players & to get an initial feel for a player, which can help in identifying if a player is then worth watching live.

FOOTBALL VIDEO SCOUTS

ADVANTAGES

  • Perfect for anyone who is looking to work completely from home & looking for flexible working.
  • Ideal job in football for anyone who lives in a very isolated location / away from any stadiums.
  • People who don’t drive may also prefer working only as a video scout as it can be difficult to get to certain stadiums if using public transport.
  • We have also had people who suffer from social anxiety begin scouting for clubs in video scouting roles.
  • Ability to work for any club anywhere in the world.
  • Ability to pause & rewind match footage

DISADVANTAGES

  • For people who only enjoy watching games live then a football video scouting job wouldn’t be for you.
  • Harder to assess a player’s character. For example, leadership qualities.
  • Harder to assess tactical details. For example, starting positions, triggers in pressing etc.
  • No face to face interaction / networking with other scouts at clubs
